Fact of the day

  • 6/14/2016: The first American mule coin (the result of a planchet being struck by two mismatched dies) was a Sacagawea Dollar with the obverse of a 50 States Quarter.
  • 6/13/2016: In 1909, when the Lincoln Cent First debuted, people lined up for hours to get the new coins. However, critics soon began complaining about designer Victor D. Brenner's "prominent" initials on the reverse. Only days after its release, the Mint halted production of the coin, removed Brenner's initials, and resumed production, creating the sought-after 1909 V.B.D. variety.
