Half Dimes

Status: Discontinued
Years: 1794-1805, 1829-1873
Many beginning numismatists would be surprised to know that the U.S. Mint is no longer making Half Dimes. "But they're making them as we speak!" Nope - they're making nickels. The difference? Half Dimes are made of silver. Nickels are made of, well, nickel. Half Dime designs include the Flowing Hair design, the Draped Bust design, the Capped Bust design, and the Seated Liberty types.
