Gold Dollars

Status: Discontinued
Years: 1849-1889
No, when I say gold dollars, I don't mean those Sacagawea dollars and presidential dollars. Not to dash your hopes on the sidewalk, but those aren't gold. I mean the Gold Dollars of 1849-1889. With more and more gold being discovered every day out west, the U.S. Mint struck up a new denomination: the Gold Dollar. Beginning and ending in conjunction with the  California Gold Rush, this interesting denomination features two design types: the Liberty Head Gold Dollar, and the Indian Princess Gold Dollar.
